Solution 4: Sobering Center
The amount of time necessary to care for binge drinkers is a distraction to our existing police force. Our police officers are tasked with moving along, redirecting and arresting chronic drug and alcohol users when they are in Redding’s streets, parks and shopping areas; this takes a significant amount of time and personnel. We need an alternate plan that frees our police officers from these duties, to address more serious criminals. We propose implementing a Sobering Center that will provide a safe place for people to detox. Also, services will be available to help addicted offenders in recovery.
